We provide advanced spinal correction and chiropractic adjustments utilizing "state of the art" chiropractic techniques.
Never in the history of chiropractic care have chiropractors been able to provide the level of help and expertise that is
available today. Many of the newest chiropractic techniques are actually safer, more comfortable and more effective
than ever before. As a chiropractor who cares about utilizing the most advanced chiropractic techniques, Dr. Charlotte
Fleming has years of training, expertise and experience in helping patients get pain relief for back pain, neck pain,
headaches, and other related conditions originating from the spine. Chiropractic care under a trained professional can
even be used to prevent injuries and help you achieve total health or wellness.
At Focus Chiropractic, we teach our patients how to perform special "blueprint" exercises which can help strengthen and
correct the irregularities in their body which may be causing pain. Many of these corrective exercises can actually be
performed in the comfort of your own home to help improve the effectiveness of your chiropractic care and spinal
correction plan. In addition to skeletal misalignment, you may be experiencing pain that is caused by muscles and
connective tissues which are out of their proper place. Other types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and
headaches are caused by muscles and tissues that are being used improperly, causing injuries over time. In each case,
targeted corrective exercises and stretches from our experienced chiropractor will help you feel good while also helping
your body achieve balance and health.
Many of our patients come to see our chiropractor to address a specific pain symptom such as back pain, neck pain or
headaches. While our chiropractor will address each patient's specific condition with chiropractic care, we often find it
helpful to "coach" our patients towards achieving a healthier lifestyle. For example, there may be certain activities that
you should avoid or do differently to prevent yourself from unintentionally aggravating your particular health challenges.
The goal of including lifestyle advice with a chiropractic care plan is to help each and every patient achieve the fulfilling
and happy lifestyle they deserve, one that is full of the activities that are enjoyed most. We recognize that every single
one of our patients is a whole person, and we use our expertise to help them reach total health and wellness.
What does nutrition have to do with chiropractic care? The goal of chiropractic care is to help patients achieve total
health and balance with their body, and as part of that goal we provide specific recommendations on nutritional
supplements and healthy food choices. Nutritional counseling by our experienced chiropractic health professionals can
assist a patient on their return to optimal health. Do you know which supplements and vitamins are good for you? Do
you know how these supplements and vitamins interact with one another? At our Monona chiropractic clinic, we can
provide each patient with a structured nutritional program that is based on their individual needs.
Massage therapy does more than make you feel good, it can actually help your body achieve balance and health.
Massage therapy offers a natural treatment approach which actually relieves musculoskeletal pain for many patients.
Our chiropractic office provides specific massage and muscular therapy that is complimentary to their chiropractic care.
Each massage therapy plan is tailored to meet the patient's unique pain condition or injury. The benefits of massage
therapy may include the increase of blood circulation, a localized reduction in swelling and the relaxation of muscles.
Massage has been known to relieve muscle pain and spasms, increase a patient's range of motion, while also aiding in
a patient's recovery. Some investigative studies have even indicated that a single session of massage may help boost
your immune system!
Spinal & Postural Screenings
There is a saying that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Your spinal health is no exception. Posture and
spinal screenings by a trained and experienced chiropractor such as Dr. Charlotte Fleming can help reveal important
health information, unlocking the door to improved health and well-being. In order to help the Monona community, we
provide screenings at area malls, community events, health fairs and places of employment. Contact us today at 920-
285-0340 to arrange a screening at your event or workplace.
Applied Kinesiology (AK)
AK is a system that evaluates structural, chemical, and mental aspects of health using manual muscle testing combined
with other standard methods of diagnosis. AK is a non-invasive system of evaluating body function that is unique in the
healing arts. It has become a dynamic movement in health care in its relatively short existence.
Sacral Occipital Technique (SOT)
SOT was originally formulated by Major Bertrand DeJarnette (The Major) who was a doctor (chiropractor and osteopath)
and engineer in the 1920’s. The Major was inspired to go beyond simple spinal adjusting and developed methods of
correcting the cranium (skull), pelvis, extremities (arms, hands, legs, feet), and organs. This study brought about a
system of adjusting patterns in the body, not just single body parts. The most significant pattern was the relationship
between the sacrum and occiput (which became the name of the technique).
Bio-Energetic Synchronization Technique (B.E.S.T)
B.E.S.T is a non-forceful, energy-balancing, hands-on procedure used to help reestablish the full healing potential of
the body. BEST principles acknowledge the concept of interference we create with our conscious mind. This
interference caused imbalance in the autonomic nervous system (the involuntary nervous system), leading to
exhaustion of our organ systems over time.
According to Chinese medicine, the Chakras are areas in the body where energy is focused. Physical, emotional, and
chemical trauma strongly affect the energy of the body. Clearing the negative energy area can promote overall healing
of the body. There are commonly seven Chakras:
Each Chakra has an energy that is different from the others. Affecting the energies and balancing them in harmony with
the higher chakra allows the body to heal more quickly, process the emotional trauma more rapidly, and allow
communications between the computer/brain and each cell more effectively.
Chiropractic Manipulation Reflex Therapy (CMRT)
CMRT is a hands-on, soft tissue technique that deals with the visceosomatic reflex arc (viscera - organ function; somato
- body function). It has a specific set of indicators, or occipital fibers, that assist the practitioner in uncovering the cause
of spinal subluxation. Once that is removed, specialized organ reflexes are applied to facilitate the corrective procedure.
Pressure in the skull can easily cause migraines and tension headaches. What causes this pressure? Like the
misalignment of the bones of the back, arms, or legs, the bones of the skull move as we breathe. Trauma, such as auto
accidents, blows to the head, or simple bumps on the head like in falls or coming up under a cabinet door, jams the
bones in the skull, much like a jammed finger. Focused, gentle movements decrease the pressure in the cranium,
repositioning the skull in the most natural, effective position. This adds significantly to your quality of life.
The history of using essential oils dates back 5000 years. Throughout history, we have written records of civilizations
using oils to heal multiple conditions. Ancient medical papyri, believed to have been written by Imhotep (Egypt’s earliest
known doctor around 2650 BC), contains 90 anatomical terms and 48 injury descriptions and cures. Our increasing
understanding lends credibility to ancient scientific speculation as the recording of ancient history improves. Essential
oils come from plants that are placed on earth for our healing. They are a vital part of my practice to encourage healing
of the physical body, the emotional challenges in life, and support positive mood in the office. are derived from plants
around the world. Concentrated into oil form, therapeutic-grade essential oils can be used topically or ingested,
depending on the oil. Although there are many companies that produce essential oils, I offer Young Living Essential Oil
and dōTERRA Essential Oils in my practice.
Gentle adjusting of the arms, elbows, wrists, and fingers, along with feet, ankles, and knees is especially important as
the feet are the foundation of our kinetic chain of walking. I observe walking patterns that cause challenges in the low
back, shoulders, and neck.
Low Force Adjustments
Low force adjustments use gentle hand adjusting, instrument adjusting, and pelvic blocking in a way that allows the body
to balance without the big thrust that is commonly used in chiropractic. Since the pelvis is the base of the spine and the
foundation of the spinal column, when there is torsion in either the pelvis, the sacrum, or the vertebra, corrections must
be made to reduce the torsions. The pelvic blocks are place strategically under either the crest of the pelvis or the
femur head to remove the torsion. Using the patients' breathing patterns as a guide, the pelvis is then balanced, and
communication between the muscles and organs throughout the body are re-established. The low force adjustments
actually allow you to return to the activities of daily living more quickly, with less pain, and with more fluid movement.
Nutrition and supplements
At Focus Chiropractic, I use the highest quality nutritional products that I can find. I provide options, such as plant based
nutrition that is soy-, gluten-, and whey-free, no added sugar, and no artificial colors or flavors. As many of us struggle
with intestinal issues, I am very sensitive to the challenges this creates. Presently, I offer Standard Process, Metagenics,
and Pure Trim. Nutrition is the leading factor in the holistic health approach as health truly lies in the digestive system.
The digestive system includes the sense of smell, and digestion begins in the mouth as we chew each morsel of food.
The system continues through the body through multiple organs before it ends at the rectum. If there is dysfunction at
any point along the path, the system does one of two things. It either slows down or stops, causing constipation, or it has
too much liquid in the intestinal canal, causing diarrhea. Neither of these conditions allow us to have optimal health.
Regular adjustments are important to balance the digestive system and allow optimal health to be restored.
Pregnancy & Infant Care
Pregnancy is a wonderful time to focus on both the mother and the baby. Chiropractic care is a safe way to provide true
health for both. Low force, gentle instrument adjusting, and pelvic blocking are used to reduce low back pain without the
forceful thrust that is commonly used. Pelvic blocking for pregnant patients is an extremely effective way to balance the
pelvis for the mother and allow comfort to the fetus. It is very gentle, based on breathing, as the pelvis moves with each
breath. Since pregnant women produce large amounts of the hormone relaxant, if the movement is exaggerated or too
forceful, it could cause more pain in the lower back.
Trigger Point Therapy
Tender points and muscles spasms in the tissues create pain and block energy. Addressing these blocked channels
frees up communication between the body and the brain, creates healing. This allows for greater movement and more
energy in daily living.
Tonal Chiropractic Therapy
Tonal chiropractic therapy recognizes that stress causes changes in the nervous system, which can change muscle
tone along the spine. The idea is that subluxations are caused by muscle problems and stress, not the other way
around. This technique evaluates the tone of the muscle bundles that hold the bony structure in place.
Functional Analysis Chiropractic Technique is an advanced approach of evaluating the primary physiological functions
of the body - brain function, breathing and walking patterns. It is a low force, gentle evaluation and adjustment protoccol
that allows the nervous system to function more effectively, because communications between the brain and the
muscles occurs more efficiently..
One of the primary goals as a FACT practioneer is to evaluate your walking and breathing patterns--- not necessarily
where the pain shows up. This evaluation leads me know where, when, and how to make correction, especially when
combined with SOT and AK. As the adjustments are made this allows the body to continue aligning and correcting itself
after the treatment is completed, because the brain/body connections are more integrated. This intergration creates a
more complete opportunity of healing on all levels--- structural, chemical, mental levels. Because of the integrated
approach, this technique allow me to treat conditions like ADHD, chronic pain, developmental conditions, PMS, allergies
and many others that are commonly "hard to resolve."
With the gentle, low force combinations of AK and SOT with FACT I can successful serve infants, newborns, women
during pregnancy as well as other conditions like collicky babies, carpel tunnel syndrome, sciatica, tension and migraine
headaches, and asthma.
Cold Laser Treatment
Cold laser therapy is a non-invasive, safe, non toxic procedure, there is no heat, no incisions, no" healing time" that is
needed for other lasers, other medical procedures. Cold Laser reduces pain and inflammation in tissues-- soft tissue
(muscle, ligaments, nerve) and hard tissue-- bones. The cold laser therapy improves and increases ciriculation of the
blood to the injured area which allows healing to occur more rapidly. It is safe, no It is very helpful in relieving acute and
chronic back pain as well as:
•Regeneration of the nerves
•Joint injuries and pains
It increases oxygenation of tissues and allows injured or damaged cells to absorb photons of light, which speeds healing.
Laser therapy can be helpful for acute injuries, strains, sprains, and shoulder injuries repetitive-use injuries, such as
carpal tunnel syndrome; traumatic injuries chronic issues, such as frozen shoulder and arthritis
Laser therapy is used to treat arthritic conditions, hip dysplasia, or intervertebral disc disease
