WHAT IS DISABILITY INSURANCE
Disability Insurance is the industry name for a plan that provides for periodic payments of benefits when a disabled insured is unable to work. The
insurance product is designed to replace anywhere from 45 to 65% of your gross income on a tax-free basis should illness keep you from earning an
income in your occupation.

INDIVIDUAL DISABILITY
If you own your business, individual disability income protection is critical. It’s also highly recommended for executives. If you’re a business owners, you
should consider purchasing both group and individual policies. Executives should be sure to obtain group coverage if it is available. Did you know that
only 43% of large companies provide group long term disability insurance?

Employees of small companies are even less likely to get long term disability insurance at work. When your employer provides you with a plan, the cost is
usually lower than if you obtained coverage on your own, and you can usually bypass the medical qualification. If your employer doesn’t offer disability
insurance, you should consider purchasing an individual disability policy.

BUSINESS OVERHEAD EXPENSE
Business overhead expense insurance is a type of disability insurance that's designed to protect your business if you become disabled. Specifically, it
provides monthly payments to your business for a specified period of time so that your business can meet its routine expenses and remain open while
you're disabled.

The following business overhead expenses are typically covered by a BOE disability policy:[1]
* Rent
* Interest payments on some business debts
* Utilities
* Employees' salaries and payroll taxes
* Postage and stationery
* Equipment maintenance
* Rental, lease, or depreciation of office equipment
* Taxes on the business property location
* Insurance premiums for Workers' Compensation, employee medical, and liability
* Accounting fees
* Professional memberships and subscriptions

Policies do not typically cover the salary of a temporary employee hired to do the duties of the disabled, unless a substitute salary expense or similar
rider is purchased with the policy. Income taxes and the cost of inventory are some expenses that are not covered.
